I can't quite believe it's 2024
A work/life update
When I was younger, I used to imagine what it would be like in the year 2000. And try and think what I would be like at 40-plus. It was almost impossible. And yet, here we are in 2024. Blimey.
It's been about a year since I have posted here and things have changed over that time. I've semi-retired which means less work and more "life" although I'm starting to think that semi-retirement is neither one thing or the other. It's a "dangerous" place someone said to me. Well, it is what it is, and, at the moment, that's where I am.
What this means is that I am not taking on website projects or managing sites for new clients. However, I am supporting existing clients with their site and hosting requirements as long as these are relatively small. Yes, I will redevelop a small site if needed ... and I will be doing that with KIrby CMS and a theme, assuming that fits the client's budget and requirements. But, I won't be working on larger projects or developing sites with other systems like WordPress. There is just too much to do with a bigger site and new WordPress site maintenance is not something I want to do. Also, with bigger sites, I question whether solo freelance developers and designers are the right choice these days. A small agency might be best.
The result is that I'm working about half the week. Apart from the website work, I am also working on Horsham Coworking admin and marketing with my other coworking partners. So, I'm in the office in Horsham 2-3 days per week. I haven't quite figured out exactly what to do with the other days but the "free" time means I can be more flexible with running and cycling activities. And it means a less hectic schedule overall.
I do want to see more of the UK. However, I said this last year to myself and I have not done as much of this as I want. I did visit some new places on the South coast of England last year including Southsea, Weymouth, and the New Forest area. I need to do more of this.
I have been running a lot over the last year and my next post in a few days will describe one of those experiences.
